A Comparison of
the Qur’an and the Bible
Similarities exist between the Bible and the Qur’an since
Muhammad referenced the Bible throughout his work. However, the numerous contradictions are what forever separates
the teachings of the Bible from Islam.
The Qur’an citations are from “The Meaning of The Holy Qur’an” (Amana
Corp., 1991), unless noted as the Pickthall translation (“PT”). The Bible texts are from the New King James
Version (Jesus’ statements are red-lettered).
Both books have different modes of inspiration. The Holy Spirit, inspired the Bible (2 Peter
1:21). In the Qur’an, however, Muhammad
is the Comforter (who Jesus spoke of in John 14-16) [see Surah 61:6]. The Holy Spirit is the Angel Gabriel in
Islam, who revealed the Qur’an to Muhammad (Surah 2:87, 253).

1. There
are many prophets of God to all nations.
Muhammad claims that he is the final prophet and messenger. ● To every people (was sent) A Messenger (Surah 10:47). ● For We assuredly sent amongst every people a messenger (with
the Command), “Serve Allah, and eschew Evil” (Surah 16:36). ● And there never was a people, without a warner having lived
among them (Surah 35:24). ● Muhammad is . . . The Messenger of Allah, and the Seal of the
Prophets (Surah 33:40). |
1. God
does not have prophets for every nation.
Jesus singled Himself out as the final revelation of God to man. ● All who ever came before Me are
thieves and robbers (John 10:8). ● Then many false prophets will rise up
and deceive many… For false christs and false prophets will rise and show
great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, event he elect. (Matthew 24:11, 24). ● Nor is there salvation in any other,
for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be
saved (Acts 4:12). |
|
2. The
Trinity is denied and misrepresented.
Muhammad incorrectly taught his followers that Christians believed in
three gods, the Father, Son, and Mary. ● “O Jesus, son of Mary, didst thou say to men, Take me and my
mother for two gods besides Allah?” (Surah 5:116, PT). ● Say not “Trinity”: desist: It will be better for you: for Allah
is One God (Surah 4:171). [Say not
“Three”. . . Pickthall Translation]. ● They do blaspheme who say: Allah is one of three in a Trinity:
for there is no god except One God (Surah 5:73). |
2. The
Trinity is affirmed. The Father, Son,
and Holy Spirit are three Persons of the one true God. ● Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is One! (Deut. 6:4). ● Baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19). ● You, O Lord, are our Father (Isa. 63:16). ● The Word was with God, and the Word
was God (Jn. 1:1). ● The Spirit of the Lord spoke by
me, and His word was on my
tongue. The God of Israel said (2
Samuel 23:2-3). |
|
3. Muhammad said that Jesus is not the Son of God. ● Christians say: The Messiah is the Son of Allah . . . How
perverse are they! (Surah 9:30, PT) ● And warn those who say: Allah hath chosen a son . . . They
speak naught but a lie (Surah 18:4-5). ●Allah, the Eternal, Absolute;
He begetteth not, nor is He begotten (Surah 112:2-3). |
3. Jesus
is the only begotten Son of God. ● This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased (Matt. 3:17;
17:5; Mark 1:11; Luke 3:22, 9:35; 2 Peter 1:17). ● For God so loved the world that He gave
His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but
have everlasting life (John 3:16). ● I said, “I am the Son of God”
(John 10:36). |
|
4. Muhammad
taught that Jesus was not God incarnate. ● In blaspheme indeed are those that say that Allah is Christ the
son of Mary (Surah 5:17). ● They do blaspheme who say: “Allah is Christ the son of Mary”
(Surah 5:72). |
4. Jesus is God incarnate (cf. Is. 9:6, Mt. 1:23; Jn. 1:1; 5:18; Acts 20:28; Rom. 9:5; Heb. 1:8;
Tit. 2:13; 2 Pet. 1:1; Rev. 1:8). ● I say unto you, before Abraham was, I
AM (Jn. 8:58). ● Thomas answered . . . “My Lord and My God!” (Jn. 20:28). ● Who being in the form of God (Phil. 2:6). ● For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead (Col. 2:9). |
|
5. Jesus
did not die on the cross, it was Judas by substitution. ● But they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made
to appear to them . . . For of a surety they killed him not (Surah 4:157). |
5. Jesus died on the cross for our sins. ● They crucified Him (Mt. 27:35; Mk. 15:24; Lk. 23:33; Jn.
19:18). ● Reach your finger here, and look at My
hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving (Jn. 20:27). |
|
6. Salvation is through the balance of good and bad works. ● The balance of that day will be true (to a nicety): Those whose
scale (of good) will be heavy, will prosper: Those whose scale will be light,
will find their souls in perdition (Surah 7:8-9). ● Things that are good remove those that are evil (Surah 11:114). |
6. Salvation is by God’s grace and not on the basis of our works. ● This is the work of God, that you
believe in Him whom He sent (Jn. 6:29). ● For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of
yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works (Eph. 2:8-9). |
|
7. Islam is the only true religion. ● If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to
Allah), never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter he will be in
the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good) (Surah 3:85). ● I perfected your religion for you and completed My favor unto
you, and have chosen for you as religion Al-Islam (Surah 5:3). |
7. Jesus
said that He is the only way to the Father, making Christianity the only true
and genuine faith. ● I am the way, the truth, and the
life. No one comes to the Father
except through Me (John 14:6). ● He who does not enter the sheepfold by
the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber (John 10:1). |
